Rainy days and vegan cookies

If you have never been to LA you would ask “Rainy days?” Isn’t it always sunny in LA? As a baby Alien, I was surprised to see my city flooded sometimes for a week during the so-called winter season.

I considered naming this post “10 things to do in LA when it rains” but then I couldn’t come up with anything that didn’t involve going out and driving. That’s why I am going to sound like a good old COVID officer and say “Don’t go out”. Seriously when it rains in Los Angeles, if you don’t have to go out, please don’t do it. I get that maybe you love the rain and walks on the beach but unless you live 15 minutes away from the beach – don’t do it

As I am writing this I realize this is more for me and not for anyone else. If you want to go out and walk in the rain, do it. I would do it if I wasn’t afraid that my car would break down or I might get hit by someone who doesn’t know how to drive in the rain.

In case it’s been raining all day, maybe even the whole weekend, and you are home alone, bored, and feeling like an Alien, here is a list of things you can do.

  1. Bake cookies

I’ve heard rumors of people who always have flour, eggs, and sugar in their homes. If you are one of them mix them up and bake some cookies. I am not going to lie – I am not one of those people who buy frozen plant-based cookies from Ralphs. Always ready for some rainy days cookies, oat milk, and an episode of Californication.

  1. Read a book

It might sound like I am just listing random stuff to do when you are alone. Maybe, but also rainy days and reading go together. No kids are screaming and playing outside and all you can hear is the raindrops. It almost feels like you are back in time in a Jane Austin novel about a girl with a cat who moved to Los Angeles.

  1. Go for a walk

If you have a rain jacket and boots put them on and go around your neighborhood. I find rainy days to be the best time for my daily walk. We all know the weather is not that bad. It’s not a thunderstorm in South Carolina.

  1. Deep clean your place

Rainy days in Los Angeles call for my favorite mindfulness practice – cleaning. Cleaning is a slow dopamine releaser with long-term benefits.

  1. Do a quick home workout/stretch/mobility

Maybe you are like me and rain can’t stop you from going to the gym. But if you are not, or maybe you don’t have a gym membership, try some home workouts to get your body moving off the couch. And don’t forget your warm-up and mobility because rain brings out all the inflammation for everyone over 30.
